Moorestown Township is home to more than 6,200 street trees. Some of these trees are located within the township “right of way” also known as the “curb strip,” which is located between the sidewalk and the road. All trees within the right of way are considered township trees by local ordinance and are managed and cared for by Moorestown’s Department of Public Works (DPW).
Recognizing the importance of trees to the quality of life in Moorestown, township council adopted an ordinance to protect these trees in 2018. Property owners who want to remove, trim or otherwise disturb a township tree must apply for a permit from the Department of Public Works to ensure they are not removing or damaging public property. Property owners who do not apply for a permit are subject to fines, fees and replacement costs.
The right of way varies depending on the street, so to determine if a tree is located in the right of way, please contact Public Works at (856) 235-3520 with your address or lot and block number.
