Clearview High gets clear skies for graduation

Students turn to a new chapter in their lives

Clearview Regional High School beat the rain and stormy weather at its  2022 graduation ceremony on June 16.

The Class of 2022 acknowledged the hardships of the pandemic, but its members showed smiles not hidden by masks. The Students Against Destructive Decisions Club gave each graduate a rose to remind them not to drink and drive during their graduation celebrations.

The school choir welcomed the students with “Pomp and Circumstance” and the welcoming remarks were given by salutatorian Paige Nguyen.

The class president address was given by Mark DeSimone, with a principal’s address by Keith Brook. During his speech, Brook noted the efforts of the Clearview community during a 2021 tornado that resulted from Hurricane Ida and touched down in Mullica Hill. He also acknowledged the class for making history by receiving millions in scholarships.

“Tonight, my message is very simple,” he said. “As you move on to life after Clearview, surround yourselves with people who inspire and uplift you.”

Clearview student Julia Buck’s speech had the theme “The Power of Friendship.” She also cited Clearview seniors who helped Mullica Hill residents after they lost homes in the tornado.
“Even if we never shared a lunch period, or a sleepover, we have leaned on each other,” she noted. “We’ve had each other’s backs in tough times. This goes for all of us.

“Together, this class can accomplish beautiful things.”

Superintendent John Horchak III then presented the Class of 2022,   advising them to keep contentment in mind going forward because the world will need to hear voices for change.

“Enjoy each phase of your relationships, career path and your family life,” he said. “Each phase is a gift, with challenges and rewards. Class of 2022, you are well prepared and well positioned to succeed,”

The awarding of diplomas was led by Board President Scott Muscarella, who told the graduates to always keep Clearview close to their hearts.

“I wish you well on the next chapter of your journey, and make sure you know that being a pioneer does not stop now,” he emphasized. “Use this foundation to do amazing things. I challenge you to always be a pioneer in how you treat others, how you live your life and in every opportunity that you pursue,”

Valedictorian David Nisula then gave a speech in which he acknowledged the COVID-related issues graduates faced early in their high-school careers.

“We made the best of every single situation that came our way,” he said.   “Congrats Class of 2022,”

The graduates then turned their tassels and threw their caps in the air.
