Medford celebrates return of downtown festival

Art, wine and music on hand for longtime event

At downtown Medford’s Art, Wine and Music Festival on June 12, the streets were filled with a Wine N’ Shine Car Show, kids activities, vendors and creative crafters.

Medford’s Main Street came alive on June 12 with the return of the long-standing Art, Wine and Music Festival, an event that included a Wine ‘n’ Shine car show and artists doing live demonstrations to show off their crafts.

The festival returned this year to its usual second Sunday in June and was planned by the Medford Business Association and ShopRite of Medford. Last year’s event was rescheduled for September because of COVID. The Medford Lakes Corvette Club presented cars that occupied South Main Street during the festival for a Wine n’ Shine Show.

A portion of the event’s proceeds benefit the Medford Arts Center (MAC), whose mission is education, evolution and empowerment through the arts. Artist and wood turner Philip Hauser, whose work is featured in the MAC gallery, was seen doing a live demonstration of woodwork for residents during the festival.

MAC Executive Director Lesha Moore took note of a high turnout at the event and said multiple artists sold their works to visitors.

“It was amazing,” she said. “It was a great day for the arts center.”

Hauser was not the only artist doing live demonstrations during the festival. MAC acrylic and oil instructor Cathy Scannell was also on hand.

“She’s a wonderful artist, and she’s a great asset to the center, and we’re just so happy she’s a part of our instructor team and participating artist,” Moore said.

Crafters and artists lined the streets downtown, and the festival also featured multiple sponsors, including sponsors Advocare Birchwood Pediatrics, Renewal by Andersen, Cabinet Coach and Pedego Haddonfield.

Among the vendors were Lower Forge Brewery; the Balic, Cream Ridge and Stokelan Estate wineries; Villari Vineyards’ and Wagonhouse Winery.
