“We want to do things to benefit the downtown (Berlin),” said Carri Alper, a member of the DBRC. “We have a number of events; this (Brew and Chew) will be our second one.”

Among local breweries that will be in attendance for Brew and Chew is the Berlin Brewing Company, which is also involved with the DBRC. It will supply much of the alcohol for attendees.

“It’s really just going to be a laid back, easy listening [experience],’’ said Alper. “There’s not going to be focus on vendors and crafts, more just having local Berlin residents and downtown come out …”

The event will have corporate sponsors and a number of vendors who have given small donations. Alper said money raised will go to the DBRC.

“We’re focused on the downtown (Berlin) area from the Cross-Keys to the Brewery …” Alper explained. “One thing we always do is put the flower baskets along the light posts on White Horse Pike, cornstalks out in October, decorate the Christmas trees in December,”

The DBRC has already planned a holiday festival for December to bring together multiple groups such as the Rotary and Berlin Borough and encourage their  collaboration and networking when businesses slow down.

As for the June 23 event, the DBRC is still seeking food trucks and vendors; the group has struggled to get commitment despite interest from locals.

Brew and Chew is currently the only DBRC event planned for the summer, but based on its success, the group and Victor Vault have discussed additional plans for later in the year.

“If Thursday becomes a draw, [they] have said they are in and we can partner …” Alper said. “‘First, we have to see what the interest is … If it’s successful, we will do it again. Food people, breweries, and music people want this event to happen.”

Anyone interested in supplying food for Brew and Chew can reach out to Alper at (609) 868-5290, with text messaging encouraged.
