Burlington County hosts 2022 Senior Art Show

Exhibit runs from June 2 through July 24 at the Worker’s House Gallery at Historic Smithville Park in Eastampton.

Special to The Sun: Burlington County’s 2022 senior art show will be Thursday through July 24 at the Worker’s House Gallery at Historic Smithville Park in Eastampton. Joan Wheeler’s photograph “Red Barn” was among the professional winners selected from last year.

The Burlington County Commissioners are encouraging seniors to submit artwork for the upcoming Burlington County Senior Art Show.

The annual exhibit is organized by the Burlington County Office on Aging, the Burlington County Department of Human Services and the Burlington County Parks Division to showcase the artistic creations of residents 60 and older.

This year’s show will be held from June 2 through July 24 at the Worker’s House Gallery at Historic Smithville Park in Eastampton.

Artists and art enthusiasts are also invited to attend an outdoor reception at Smithville to mark the opening of the exhibit on June 3 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

“The arts are a wonderful creative outlet for residents of all ages and Burlington County is proud to provide this showcase for our talented seniors,” said Commissioner Felicia Hopson, the Board’s liaison to the Department of Human Service and the Office on Aging. “Last year we received nearly two dozen submissions that were displayed in our beautiful gallery at Smithville. It was a fantastic show and we’re hoping we receive even more great works of art this year.”

“Burlington County has incredible natural scenery, history and a growing and diverse arts scene, and the Senior Art Show is a perfect opportunity for artists to have their work exhibited,” added Commissioner Allison Eckel, liaison to the Department of Resource Conservation and Parks. “We also want to encourage residents to visit Smithville during the months of June and July and view the creations of our county’s seniors along with the beauty and history of one of the county’s most popular parks.”

All Burlington County residents 60 and older are eligible to submit one original piece of artwork in one of a variety of categories, including acrylic painting, oil painting, mixed media, watercolor and gouache, pastel and chalk, printmaking, photography, sculpture and craft.

Submission is free. All submissions must have been completed during the past three years.

All submitted work will be exhibited, but submissions from professional artists will be judged separately from non-professionals.

First place winners from each category will be automatically accepted to the New Jersey Senior Art Show scheduled for the fall in Mercer County.

This is the seventh year the county has organized a Senior Art Show. Last year’s show featured close to two dozen submissions.

Artists interested in submitting works to this year’s show are asked to complete and submit a registration form no later than May 30. Registration forms are available at https://www.co.burlington.nj.us/1346/Arts and should be mailed to 2022 Senior Art Show, PO Box 6000, 49 Rancocas Road, Mount Holly, NJ 08060.
