At the April 28 Board of Education meeting, Donnetta Beatty was approved as the next principal of J. Fithian Tatem Elementary School, effective July 1, 2022.
Beatty emerged as the successful candidate from a field of 55 applicants. Of the original group, 25 were granted a first-round administrative interview; eight were selected to participate in two rounds of panel interviews. Two finalists participated in an interview with Superintendent Klaus and Assistant Superintendent Priolo.
The panel of interviewers was composed of parents, teachers, support staff, and administrators. They agreed that they were most impressed with Beatty’s focus on community and collaboration and her commitment to building authentic relationships with the Tatem School community. Her passion for public service and her academic and professional background will make her an exceptional leader for Tatem students, staff, and families.
Beatty graduated with her B.A. in English from The College of William and Mary. She continued her education at Temple University, earning her MA in Spanish and later her Master’s in School Administration from Rowan University. She comes to Haddonfield with over 25 years of public school experience and is currently the Supervisor of Teaching and Learning in the Black Horse Pike Regional School District.
Beatty will visit the school in May and June to coordinate a smooth transition with current principal Kim Dewrell, who is leaving Haddonfield due to a family move.
