All Star Soccer at Moorestown’s recreation center

Programming for individuals with special needs includes summer and soccer camp.

“All Star Soccer” for children and young adults with physical and/or intellectual disabilities begins April 23 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. The program is for ages three to 21 and can be adapted for any type of disability. Join in the fun, rain or shine at the Second Street Rec Center gymnasium. This eight-week program is free and participants can enroll at any time.

This is a great way to build self-esteem, social skills and physical fitness. Games are adapted to suit individual needs and ‘buddy’ volunteers are available to assist as needed. (If interested in being a ‘buddy’, contact Coach Becca Small at rebecca76.dm@gmail.com or call 856-285-9409.)

The All Star Soccer program is a collaboration between Moorestown Parks & Recreation and Maple Shade Soccer. T-Shirts provided by the Law Offices of Posternock Apell.

The Rec Department’s Summer Camp for individuals with special needs will start on July 5 through July 29. Registration is for two age groups, five to 12 and 13 to 21. This month-long program is filled with a wide range of activities and outings.

Camp is five days a week at the Upper Elementary School, Monday through Thursday from 12:15 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. (directly following the morning ‘Extended School Year’ program) and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Kids will enjoy games, arts and crafts, field trips and special events.

Staff includes certified special education teachers, a nurse plus Parks and Recreation Staff who guide, instruct and provide a secure environment. The program fee is just $100 for both residents and non-residents. Non-profit partner, Mission Voice, subsidizes the cost in order to provide much needed support during the summer to families in the community. Transportation will be provided only for Moorestown residents.
