Free Easter egg hunt and food drive set for this weekend

Items collected to be donated to Your Place at the Table

The Easter bunny is set to arrive for an egg hunt and celebration on Saturday, April 9 at 11 a.m. at the William Wilt Soccer Complex. Special photo opportunities and meet and greets with the bunny are planned for the festive day.

Guests are not only encouraged to bring their own baskets for the egg hunt, but the event will also be collecting shelf stable food for Your Place at the Table, a non-profit food pantry in Mullica Hill.

Kristen Skrobanek, director of Your Place at the Table, reflects on the pantry’s ongoing partnership with the Harrison Township Recreation department. When the department reached out to see if the pantry was willing to receive food collected at the hunt, it wasn’t a question for Skrobanek.

“Of course we said absolutely,” she said. “Such a fun way to meet the community and let them know that we are here to help any family in need.”

While all non-perishable food items and toiletries will be accepted at the collection, Skrobanek puts an emphasis on the following items that are especially needed at the pantry: pancake mix, syrup, soup, cereal, plain pasta and baby wipes.

Do not feel limited to those items, however, as all acceptable donations collected will be distributed to Mullica Hill families in need.

“We rely 100% on community donations so we are thankful for any opportunity to help stock our shelves,” Skrobanek said.

William Wilt Soccer Complex is located at 162 Walters Road in Mullica Hill. The event is free, and families that arrive early will be included in special photo opportunities. Children participating in the egg hunt will be divided by age group.

After Easter, Your Place at the Table will be hosting the #PACKthecrate community food drive for Mother’s Day and Father’s Day.

“This is a community based food drive where your neighbor or friend might pass you the crate to pack it full of food, post it on social media and then pass the crate to the next family: pack it, post it, pass it on,” Skrobanek said.

The food from each crate can then be dropped off at multiple locations throughout Mullica Hill, including Trinity Methodist Church, located at 284 Cedar Road.

For more information, visit the Your Place at the Table Facebook page or the website at YPATT.org. Those in need of food are encouraged to call or text 609-202-0015.
