Mabel Kay Senior Center announces new programs

Programs include return of "Something to Chew On", one-on-one tech help and a senior prom in May.

New programs are coming to Mabel Kay Senior Center in April! These include the relaunch of “Lunch and Learn” program that has been renamed “Something to Chew On”, one-on-one tech help with the Haddonfield Public Library, and a senior prom held on May 7 courtesy of the Haddonfield Memorial High School LEO club.

“Something to Chew On” will take place on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month from 12:15 to 1:45 p.m. at Mabel Kay Senior Center. This is a great way to nourish both your stomach and your brain. The format includes a half hour to eat and schmooze, a half hour for a guest speaker followed by a half hour of Q&A or extra schmoozing. Attendees can leave as needed. This was a very popular program pre-COVID and, as long as masks remain optional, Mabel Kay will be able to provide this program once again. Topics can be both senior-related and non-senior related and can include general interest, “How To’s,” as well as spotlight some local accomplishments or organizations.

In order to properly provide lunch, Mabel Kay Senior Center asks for a RSVP by the Monday of that same week. If you don’t like to come to things by yourself, grab a friend (or let Sheri Siegel at Mabel Kay know, she’ll find you a friend.)

Starting in April, on the first and third Tuesdays of the month, Haddonfield Library staff will come to Mabel Kay from 11 a.m. to noon for one-on-one technology appointments. They will send two teachers who can each accommodate two 30-minute appointments (four appointments per day).  Sign-ups will take place via Sign Up Genius https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0E4CABA72DA7F8CE9-oneonone or by phone (856) 354-8789. Please only reserve one spot for the time being so that more people can sign up. If you need help, let Sheri know

On Saturday, May 7, seniors are invited to a Senior Prom organized by the Haddonfield Memorial High School’s LEO Club. The prom will take place in the high school’s courtyard (inclement weather would move the event to the gymnasium) from 2 to 4 p.m. The prom will include light refreshments, dancing, a photo booth, and games.

Entry is free, and all senior citizens in Haddonfield are invited. Haddonfield residents may also invite guests from surrounding towns. There will be a student DJ playing a mixture of hits from the 1950s to 70s and today. In the past, there Mabel Kay members have led the students in line dances. Guests are encouraged to dress up and a Prom King and Queen will be awarded, which is often based on the best-dressed guest.  Entry is free, but registration is required.

For questions or RSVPs for all programs, please email ssiegel@haddonfield-nj.gov or call 856-354-8789.
