Paws and Feet ‘fun day’ at Freedom Park is postponed

Event will be relocated on a date not yet determined

The Paws and Feet AWA 5k walk will no longer be held at Freedom Park

The Animal Welfare Association’s Paws and Feet 5K Race and Doggie Fun Day scheduled for May 14 has been postponed due to unforeseen circumstances.

The association has held the annual event for more than 40 years, albeit virtually during the pandemic. Originally held at Cooper River Park in Cherry Hill, the fun day location was switched to Medford’s Freedom Park because of ongoing construction at the original site.

The association announced the postponement on its website on March 17, and while  another date and location have yet to be determined, association Development Manager Marian Conicella said the show will go on.

“The event is a celebration of people who have a relationship with the AWA and [the] pet-loving community,” she said. “There are all kinds of activities for the day that are pet friendly, family friendly and people friendly.”

Funds raised from fun day help support animals during the year with medical assistance and supplies. The association’s goal for the event is $60,000.

According to Conicella, there is no attendance fee at the event itself and money is raised through multiple activities and vendors. But anyone who pre-registered for the Paws and Feet 5K Race/Walk can get a refund.

Medford officials could not be reached for comment regarding the Freedom Park cancellation. For more information, visit the animal association website.
