The Burlington County Commissioners and Burlington County Workforce Development Board are inviting residents interested in potential careers in the construction trades and utilities industries to attend an upcoming career fair.
The Burlington County Construction Trades and Utilities Industry Career Fair will be held March 24 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Burlington County Human Services Building, 795 Woodlane Road, Westampton.
During the fair, job seekers will be able to speak with representatives from some of New Jersey’s biggest employers from the construction and utilities industries, including the New Jersey Construction Craft Laborers Apprenticeship Program, Building and General Construction Local 77, Construction and General Laborers Local 172, Delva Tool & Machine, Friant’s Inc., Insulators Local 89, International Union of Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers IBEW Local 269, NVR Building Products Inc., NVR Building Product Inc., National Metering Services Inc., Plumber and Pipefitters Local 322, Radwell International and Tile, Marble and Terrazzo Local 7.
Burlington County Commissioner Felicia Hopson said the event is a must for any Burlington County resident who is interested in a job in the building trades or utilities fields.
More than 165,000 people worked in construction and utilities jobs in 2020, according to the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development. The average salary was $77,900.
“The construction and utility sectors are among the most important industries around and the men and women who work in these fields are absolutely critical. We depend on these skilled professionals for the homes we live in, the buildings where we work, the roads, bridges and rails we use to travel, and the infrastructure we depend upon for heat and energy,” said Hopson, who serves as the Commissioners’ liaison to the Workforce Development Board. “There are plenty of great opportunities. Anyone looking for their first career or a new one, should not miss this job fair.”
New Jersey Senator Troy Singleton also encouraged people interested in a construction career to attend the county’s event.
“I have been a strong proponent of careers in the construction industry. These jobs pay well, are in high demand, and are extremely meaningful to our communities,” said Singleton. “I encourage anyone who is looking to start their career, or anyone who is considering switching fields, to attend this job fair to explore the opportunities that the construction and utility trades can offer.”
The job fair is also being held during Women’s History Month and Hopson said she hoped women might attend the fair and take advantage of the opportunity to learn more about construction careers and training.
“There’s a growing number of women working construction jobs, but we know we’re still very much underrepresented,” Hopson said. “There are training and apprenticeship programs in New Jersey designed specifically to help women and other minorities break into these industries and there will be information about them at this job fair.”
