Organization honors Lucy Beard, winner of the Celebrating Women’s Voices Award

The Celebrating Women’s Voices event will be held via Zoom from 2 to 4 p.m.

The Judith Glick Buckman Fund for the Future invites the public to attend their January 29, 2022 virtual event when they will present the 2021 Celebrating Women’s Voices award to Lucy Beard, former Executive Director of the Alice Paul Institute (API) in Mount Laurel.

Beard served as Executive Director from 2012-2020 and has been actively engaged with the API since 1994 when she joined the organization as a volunteer. She later served as a member of the Board of Directors, and in 2002 became API’s Program Director when she established programs for students of all  ages and established a wide array of programs and events that remain the hallmark of the organization.  Beard currently serves as co-chair of the National Collaborative for Women’s History Sites.

In addition to the opportunity to hear from this outstanding leader, the event will include reflections from two of API’s Girls Leadership Council scholarship winners, as well as the opportunity to see a wide variety of fair-trade items, from chocolates to clothing to household goods items available for purchase from Donna Gottardi, owner of My Fair-Trade Lady. Eighty percent of fair-trade items are made by women so purchases will benefit both the Fund as well as women entrepreneurs worldwide.

The Celebrating Women’s Voices event will be held via Zoom from 2 to 4 p.m. Tickets are available on a sliding scale, based on ability to pay, starting at $10 per person. Proceeds from the event will benefit educational programs on the importance of women’s contributions to all segments of American society.  Activities supported by the Fund include an essay contest for middle and high school students, the Alice Paul Institute’s Girls Leadership Program for girls of all ages, as well as the Burlington County League of  Women Voters’ Ready to Run Program which encourages high school girls to become involved in the political process.
