The Deptford Township Board of Education held their annual reorganization meeting on Jan. 5, a session that opened with a reading of 2021 election results.
Board Secretary Todd D. Reitzel cited results that enabled Laura Newcomb, James P. McDevitt and Mark L. Getsinger to take three available seats on the board of education.
Newcomb, McDevitt and Getsinger will each serve a three-year term. The board also elected McDevitt as vice president and board member Joseph McKenna as president for the year.
The following were other board appointments for 2022:
- Stacy Gray will serve as delegate to the New Jersey School Boards Association.
- McDevitt will serve as the alternate delegate to the New Jersey School Boards Association.
- McKenna will serve as delegate to the Gloucester County School Boards Association, with McDevitt as an alternate.
According to Deptford Township Schools’ Coordinator of Communications Sal Randazzo, there were no public comments made at the reorganization meeting, which transitioned into a regular session.
More appointments were made, including Marmero Law LLC (formerly known as Grace, Marmero & Associates, LLP) earning the title of school solicitor, effective Feb. 1 through Jan. 31, 2023, and Garrison Architects as the district’s architect of record effective, Jan. 16 through Jan. 15, 2023. The board of education also renewed its membership in the Gloucester, Cumberland, and Salem School Districts Joint Insurance Fund (GCSSD JIF).
Employment and promotions were announced for schools employees, including the hiring of bus aides and promotions for paraprofessionals. A district bus driver was terminated immediately, and special-education teacher Dana Huder was transferred to Good Intent Elementary School.
Because of the recent COVID surge, middle- and high-school students will be remote at least through Friday, Jan. 14, Early childhood and elementary students will remain on a full in person schedule and all district staff will continue in person as well.
