Gloucester Township hosts 2022 reorganization meeting

Mayor David R. Mayer sworn in for his fourth term

Gloucester Township held its annual reorganization meeting on Jan. 3, swearing in multiple township officials to new terms for their respective positions.

The session began with the swearing in of David Mayer, now in his fourth consecutive term as mayor of Gloucester Township. Mayer defeated Republican challenger Joseph Damico III and Sam Sweet in the November election.

Mayer spoke of the 12 years he’s served as mayor and how he plans to move forward in 2022.

“It’s certainly been an honor to serve this community as mayor over the last 12 years,” he said. “Together, we’ve been able to accomplish a lot. Now there’s  more to do, and I’m looking forward to these next four years.”

Mayer elaborated on how important the community aspect of Gloucester Township is to him, and he thanked fellow council members for their leadership.

“It’s really about the individuals that give back in this community,” he noted.

Also sworn in were Michelle Winters, Carolyn Grace and Dan Hutchinson, who were Democratic incumbents opposed in the November election by three Republican and Independent challengers.

Grace said she’s optimistic about the new year, despite challenges in the past.

“We’re making great progress,” she noted. “I’m really looking forward to stepping out in the community, past COVID hopefully, so we can get back out there and really engage.”

Also at the meeting, Orlando Mercado was the unanimous choice to continue as council president, while Tracey Trotto was unanimously chosen as vice president. Both were sworn in following the votes.

Township Clerk Nancy Powers also read the list of 2022 reappointments for  positions in the township, including Thomas Cardis as business administrator,   Ryan Trabash as municipal judge, David Carlamere as solicitor and Remington & Vernick Engineers as municipal engineers.
