Eastern moves to remote instruction until at least Wednesday, Jan. 5

According to a letter sent out to parents and published on the Eastern Regional High School website by Superintendent Robert Cloutier, the district has moved to 100 percent remote instruction for the first three days following winter break due to rising COVID cases.

“Local conditions began to exponentially deteriorate this afternoon. More than 20 student cases [had] been reported since 1 p.m. [Sunday], in addition to the more than 40 cases reported over the winter break. Bus staffing has emerged as a concern,” Cloutier said, in the letter.

According to the district, Monday, Jan. 3 will follow a delayed opening bell schedule while the following two days will follow the regular day bell schedule while undergoing remote instruction. At this time, it is unknown if additional remote instructional days will be added due to the nature of the rising cases within the district.

“We will continue to evaluate circumstances and determine the path forward with the goal of returning to in-person instruction as soon as possible. We are awaiting further clarifications and guidance from the State,” Cloutier said, in the letter.

In the meantime, Eastern is making available more tests for students. The first 100 students that sign up through the link on the schools website will be able to be tested from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the Main Foyer on Monday, Jan. 3.

For more information, visit the school’s website throughout the week.
