Moorestown council approves outdoor dining changes

Tech committee member also honored at last meeting of month.

CHRISTINE HARKINSON/The Sun: During its Nov. 29 meeting, Moorestown Township Council expresses condolences at the death of Tech Committee member Dan Wilt, who passed away unexpectedly on Nov. 13.

Moorestown Township Council motioned to adopt an ordinance for recommended planning board changes to permit outdoor dining at its Nov. 29 meeting.

The changes are not substantial.

“(Those) changes were to (more) specifically refer to some of the sections of the existing code that are being changed,” said Township Manager Kevin Aberant.

“This is another example of (this) council and the township trying to make sure that businesses can operate to the best of their ability,” said Councilman Quinton Law.

Deputy Mayor Sue Mammarella updated council on the Better Together Moorestown community survey.

“The Better Together committee has met (quite) a few times, and right now they’re still analyzing and they’ve started to put together the presentation for council,” she said. “We’re looking to present (maybe) late January or early February.”

Mayor Nicole Gillespie announced that a page for Moorestown businesses will soon appear on the township’s website.

“There will be a (new) page on the website that will be a business-focused page for those wanting to start new businesses or get information about businesses in Moorestown,” she noted.

Later in the meeting, council motioned to adopt consent agenda resolutions, including a decrease contract change order for the above-ground storage tank installation project.

“It’s going to cost less than what council had approved for that project,” Aberant explained. “The fact that (this) is spending less money is actually a benefit to the township.”

Aberant also informed council that District 2 residents will receive an additional leaf pickup on Dec. 20 and should plan to put their leaves curbside that week.

“The (original) schedule called for doing the (second) leaf pickup (in) the week of Nov. 15, which was before (even) half of the leaves had fallen in that section of town,” he said.

The township announced on Dec. 2 that the Percheron Park project is expected to begin in the spring. According to an official notice, the township is seeking a new contractor and preparing to bid the project this month, with an estimated bid submission deadline of mid-January.

Council also expressed condolences for Moorestown resident and chair of its Telecommunications and Technology Committee Daniel Wilt, who passed away unexpectedly on Nov. 13.

“Dan Wilt was someone who had a lot of expertise, and I (really) appreciated that and his clarity,” said Mammarella. “My deepest sympathies to his family. And I am sure that he will be (very) missed.”
