Medford Woman’s Club hosts Dine & Donate at local restaurant

Proceeds to fund high-school scholarship for a chosen senior

Two members of the Woman’s Club of Medford, Erin Singer and Donna Mallinger, enjoy a meal with their husbands at Illiano’s Cucina restaurant for the Dine and Donate fundraiser. Its proceeds will fund a scholarship for a female high-school student to further her education.

The Woman’s Club of Medford partnered with Illiano Cucina restaurant in the township for this year’s Dine and Donate event on Nov. 2 and 3, proceeds from which will fund the club’s Alice Mietz scholarship for a female high-school senior planning to further her education.

The club holds Dine and Donate to boost its fundraising efforts, including an event last year that was restricted due to COVID. The effort has also benefited local restaurants adversely affected by the pandemic, including Tacos el Tio, Ginger Asian Cuisine and Zinc Cafe.

The Alice Miertz scholarship can go to a student in the 08055 zip code who will study at a two or four year college or university or attend trade school. It is named for the club’s longest-serving member, who has been with the club since 1976 and is the chair of its social service committee, which advocates for mental health and women in nursing facilities.

Club co-President Kathy Cullen addressed why Dine and Donate helps everyone involved.

“It benefits us both, us with the fundraising, and it benefits them (restaurant owners), because there are people out there that may not frequent their restaurant on a regular basis,” she explained. “Because of this, because our members will go out and they’ll bring friends, etc. … It also makes others in the area aware of the restaurants and hopefully they’ll go back.”

The club will host another Dine and Donate event on Dec. 8 at P.J. Whelihans’ in Medford Lakes. For more information on upcoming events, visit https://medfordwomansclub.com/
