YES, we need to get rid of plastic bags, straws, packaging...  It’s a small step for individuals to be responsible and do something to help the environment.

To the Editor,

I was so happy to see your recent opinion article in the Mullica Hill Sun regarding recycled plastic. The plastic industry has pulled the wool over so many people’s eyes by misleading consumers to believe that the plastic they use is recyclable. If we are extremely lucky, #1 and #2 plastic MAY POSSIBLY be recycled. The remaining plastic is TRASH.

Every visit to the grocery store with my canvas grocery bags, I ask the manager when they plan to get rid of the plastic bags. They have no answer. Right before the pandemic, it seemed that so many people were getting on board, being responsible and bringing their own bags to the grocery store. Now those numbers have declined dramatically.

YES, we need to get rid of plastic bags, straws, packaging…  It’s a small step for individuals to be responsible and do something to help the environment. Unfortunately, we live in a throwaway society with most individuals in this mindset. I’ve asked my local grocery store to please do something about this – it is my opinion that if people had to pay as little as 25 cents for each plastic bag that they used, they would soon switch over to a canvas or reusable bag.

Thanks for putting this topic in your paper.

Sincerely,

Anne Seebold
