The Shamong Republicans look ahead in township election

In unofficial results from the Burlington County Office of Elections, Republicans Brian Woods and Christopher Zehnder are leading the uncontested election for the two open seats with Shamong Township’s Committee.

Woods is currently leading with 1,966 votes at 50.14 percent of the vote, with Zehnder just behind at 1,938, for 49.43 percent of the vote. These results are unofficial at this time.

For the one open seat available with the Shamong Township Public Schools Board of Education, Frank Locantore is currently leading with 1,011 votes for 62.6 percent of the vote, while Christopher Lager trails behind with 596 votes for 36.9 percent of the vote.

In other unofficial election results, Keith Hopson is leading the race for the uncontested unexpired term with the Shamong Township Board of Education seat, having received 98.5 percent of the vote.

The race for the governorship of New Jersey was not officially decided as of deadline, but incumbent Gov. Phil Murphy appears headed for the top job in Trenton once more, fending off a challenge from GOP counterpart Jack Ciattarelli. In Burlington County specifically, with 361 of 365 precincts reporting, Murphy holds a lead of approximately 7.500 votes over Ciattarelli. Murphy would become the first Democrat to be sent back to the state capitol by voters since Brendan Byrne in 1977.
