Democrats slated to keep seats on Gloucester Township Council

BHPRSD Board of Ed and GTPS BOE may see some new faces

With 97 percent of districts having been reported, incumbent Democrat David Mayer is on track to renew his position as Mayor within Gloucester Township against Republican candidate Joseph Damico III and Independent Samuel Sweet.

As of 11:46 p.m. on the evening of  Wednesday, Nov. 3, Mayer has received 48.27 percent of the tallied votes, while Damico has received 37.69 percent and Sweet has received 13.98 percent.

For the three open seats with Gloucester Township Council, Democratic incumbents Michelle Winters, Carolyn Grace and Dan Hutchison currently hold about a 3 percent lead over their Republican challengers. Winters leads for the incumbents, having received 16.51 percent of the total vote. Grace has 16.27 percent of the vote while Hutchison has 16.22 percent.

In the race to fill Black Horse Pike Regional High School’s three open seats on the board of education, the three leading candidates are incumbents Jennifer Storer (8,612 total votes) and Jay McMullin (7,688) with new face Shana Mosley also currently leading with 20 percent of the vote currently in (7,658). These three are competing against incumbent Matthew Jefferson (6,032) and candidate Linda Gilch (7,286).

For the Gloucester Township Public Schools Board of Education, nine candidates competed for three open seats. The top three at this time are Linda Gilch with 5,775 votes, followed by incumbent Anthony Marks (4,692) and Kia Lipscomb (4,528), who is narrowly leading incumbent Brian Hammell (3,820), along with Tamika Harvey, Pauline Alegria, Keith Gibbons, Dolores Abbonizio and Jennifer Zuck.

In the race to fill three seats on the Camden County  Board of Commissioners, with 98 percent of precincts reporting, Democrat incumbents Jeffrey Nash (84,909), Melinda Kane (84,275) and Almar Dyer (81,762) are on track to keep their seats against Republican candidates Jennifer Moore (50,996) Johanna Scheets (49,703) and Rachel Boberg (49,168).

In State Senate races for the 4th District, with 97 percent of the precinct’s reporting, Democratic candidate Fred Madden is currently leading with 21,709 votes to Republican candidate Stephen Pakradooni Jr. ‘s 14,106.

For the General Assembly, Democratic incumbents Paul Moriarty and Gabriela Mosquera are currently leading over Republican candidates Denise Gonzalez and Patricia Kline and against Independent runner Nicholas Magner.

Democrat Gilbert ‘Whip’ Wilson, running unopposed for Sheriff, has received 95,849 votes.

The race for the governorship of New Jersey was not officially decided as of deadline, but incumbent Governor Phil Murphy appears headed for the top job in Trenton once more, fending off a challenge from GOP counterpart Jack Ciattarelli. In Camden County, with 338 of 343 precincts reporting, Murphy holds a lead of more than 24,000 votes over Ciattarelli. Murphy would become the first Democrat to be sent back to the state capitol by voters since Brendan Byrne in 1977.
