Annual mayoral 5K run/walk supports local veterans

The event offered free registration for all veterans participating

Runners and walkers were able to choose a standard 5K experience, or they could choose a designated lane that dowsed participants in red, white and blue colors during the race.

The Red, White and Blue Mayor 5K Run/Walk began at 8 a.m. sharp on Sept. 25 at Deptford’s  Fasola Park, with free registration for all participating veterans.

Deptford Mayor Paul Medany and council hosted and sponsored the annual event, which  supports local veterans as a preamble to Veterans Day in November. Multiple veterans were honored with trophies and medals.

Runners and walkers who participated were able to choose a standard 5K experience, or they could choose a designated lane where participants were doused in red, white and blue colors.

There was also a one-mile walk and activities for kids, who received participation medals after completing the 5K.

The kids’ leg of the race was sponsored by Nemours Children’s Health in Cherry Hill. Other sponsors were Danny Greene Memorial Golf Outing, Deptford Signarama and the Deptford Mall. All participants received a T-shirt designed with an American flag and 2021 Deptford Township Red, White and Blue 5K and Fun Run in red lettering.

The next township event hosted by Medany and council will be the fall festival on Saturday, Oct. 9. Festivities will include a craft fair, hay rides and a beer garden. The event will feature the Goodfella’s Band and free pumpkins will be offered to kids while supplies last.
