Clearview school nurses cited for front-line work during the pandemic

McMurray, Tiedeken named employees of the year by superintendent

Two Clearview school nurses have been named district employees of the year for their persistence and hard work during a difficult year.

Diane McMurray and Lisa Tiedeken, both RNs, were honored by school Superintendent John Horchak.

“What I like most about Clearview is that I get to work alongside other professionals who are dedicated to the success of their students,” said Tiedeken, who works at the middle school and got the same recognition from the school board for the 2017-’18 school year.

Tiedeken, who will begin her 13th year of teaching in September, admitted that being a nurse during the pandemic presented challenges that were hard to overcome.

“In nursing, we’re used to new research and the changes it brings to our practice,” she explained. “However, during the beginning of this pandemic, information changed so quickly that it was challenging to stay current.”

High-school nurse McMurray won an educator of the year award a couple of years ago.  She has been a nurse for about 33 years, and 18 at Clearview. McMurray has learned more about mental health since nursing through a pandemic.

“It’s funny, you think some people are going to react in a positive manner,” she acknowledged, “and the people you thought would react positively reacted in a negative manner.”

Murray said what she loves most about working at Clearview and as a nurse overall is helping co-workers and students. Tiedeken shared that sentiment.

“I’ve been reminded of how much the school community really does trust and rely on school nurses,” she noted. “It is a privilege to guide students, staff members, and parents through these uncertain times.”
