For the past six weeks, the Centurions of South Jersey have been accepting donations during their bi-monthly meetings for the Animal Welfare Association (AWA). The Centurions do two rides per year and wanted to do an additional ride in 2021.
The Centurions of South Jersey chose AWA for their additional ride and donation drive “because we felt the programs AWA offer align with our interests. Specifically AWA’s Pets for Vets and PAWS Programs, both programs intersect with the Centurions’ priority endeavors as an organization. We also have a number of former and current K-9,” said Michael Kulikowski, Retired Deputy of the Interior and member of the Centurions of South Jersey.
On May 29, 2021, the Centurions of South Jersey will drop off received donations to support the Animal Welfare Association from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. At AWA there will be a meet and greet, and coverage as they unload the trailer. After that they will ride away to a local “watering hole” and enjoy themselves. Donations to include enrichment items, dog and cat food, paper products, and more.
“We do not receive any government funds and rely solely on private donations, so events like this are so important because donations of items help us save resources in other ways to support the animals,” says Jeana Hoffman, Event Planner for AWA. “We are always in need of wet and dry food, enrichment items, towels and linens, litter, and other various items that we go through them quickly.”
The Centurions was started by a group of Camden City New Jersey police officers in 1973. That original club has grown and currently has chapters in nine states and Canada. This organization is a police-oriented group of motorcycle enthusiasts who get together to socialize and enjoy the wind in their faces. They are not however all about play. They support and are active in numerous charity efforts throughout the Tri-State area.
