Community SJP and Diverse Professional Realtors hold food drive for those in need

Starting at 11 a.m today, 100 grocery bags will be distributed at the Ethel Lawrence community in Mount Laurel.

Mount Laurels Township council cares deeply about community service and giving back to the community. For Councilwoman Fozia Janjua, community service dates back to her upbringing.

Raised in San Francisco, California, Janjua learned that strong communities were built through mentorship and service.  “I started volunteering in middle school. I’ve worked with inner-city kids, in nursing homes. We need to recognize those in need and find ways to help our local community”.

Janjua and friends founded Community South Jersey and Philadelphia (Community SJP) whose mission is to unite communities through service by harnessing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors. The nonprofit coordinates service projects like school supply drives, distributing blankets to hospitals and shelters, and makeovers for women in domestic violence shelters.

The nonprofit provides thousands of meals and care packages to shelters and community centers across South Jersey and Philadelphia. What started as an idea in November 2016 has grown into an organization that aims to unite the divisiveness in communities and bring together volunteers of all ages.

Today- Friday, April 16 starting at 11 a.m., Janjua and members of Community SJP will drop off 100 grocery bags to be distributed at the Ethel Lawrence community in Mount Laurel. The food drive was the collective effort of Community SJP, Diverse Professional Realtors, and many volunteers.
