Mayor’s Column: Spring leaf pickup

The spring curbside leaf collection program has started and will continue from April 5 through April 30. Your trash day will determine which week your spring leaf collection will occur.

Spring has arrived, and so has warmer weather which typically leads to outside yardwork.  The Voorhees Township Public Works Department is assisting in this chore by offering spring leaf collection, vegetation and yard waste removal.

Curbside spring leaf collection is offered with two options.  Option One – place leaves in trash cans or biodegradable bags and set curbside Sundays after 4 p.m. and prior to 6 a.m. on Mondays for pick up township wide.  Leaves cannot be placed in plastic bags as these bags are not biodegradable and will not be accepted at the County compost site. Option Two – place loose leaves curbside the weekend before your scheduled collection week below.  Please keep your leaf piles free of branches and twigs as these items clog the machine.

Spring leaf collection will occur from April 5 through April 9 for all residents who have a Tuesday trash day.

Spring leaf collection will occur from April 12 through April 16 for all residents who have a Wednesday trash day.

Spring leaf collection will occur from April 19 through April 23 for all residents who have a Thursday trash day.

Spring leaf collection will occur from April 26 through April 30 for all residents who have a Friday trash day.

Please continue to place grass in cans and biodegradable bags.

Vegetation and yard waste removal will occur every Monday.  Branches should be a maximum of four feet long.  Smaller twigs, plants and grass can be placed in biodegradable bags or trash cans.  Please place these materials curbside by 6 a.m. Monday.  Keep all yard waste separated from loose leaves.  Collection will be within one to three business days.

For larger-than-normal amounts of non-hazardous household trash being discarded from attics, garages, etc., Voorhees Township offers bulk trash pick up on the third full week of the month on your scheduled trash day.  This Spring, the bulk trash weeks occur April 19 through April 23 and May 17 through May 21.  Construction debris will not be collected.  For questions or additional information, please call (856) 428-5499.

State law prohibits the Township from collecting hazardous materials or electronics such as televisions or computers. Camden County provides routine hazardous waste collection events. The next collection event is April 24 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., rain or shine, at the Collingswood Public Works Complex, 713 N. Atlantic Ave. For more information visit camdencounty.com/event/household-hazardous-waste-event/ or call (856) 858-5241.
