On April 12, the Township Manager and council will introduce a
budget with a ZERO municipal tax increase. The township council is happy to be able to
provide a zero tax increase to residents during these difficult times.
“While Mount Laurel Township endured unprecedented financial obstacles due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our Township’s council and management worked tirelessly to find savings in order to introduce a budget with no municipal tax increase and with no cuts to public services.” stated Mayor Steglik. “This budget not only fulfills necessary obligations to the residents of Mount Laurel, but ensures that we are operating with the tax payer in mind.”
Township council is pleased to note that this is the first time since 2006 where residents have two consecutive years of no municipal tax increase. Despite the fiscal challenges posed from this past year, Township Council considered it a top priority to not increase the financial burden of residents.
“Losses in revenue this year, including $1 million dollars in hotel and motel tax, meant we had to make difficult decisions with our budget.” Deputy Mayor Pritchett said. “The aid of federal relief funds delivered by Congressman Andy Kim helped council put forward a budget that doesn’t increase the financial burden for the residents of our town.”
The budget’s first hearing will be at the next Township council meeting on Monday April 12 with a public hearing on May 10.
