Paddle Board/ Kayak Race returns

The 3rd Annual Paddle Board/Kayak Race and Family Festival will take place on Saturday, June 12 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Strawbridge Lake Beautification Committee is hosting its 3rd Annual Paddle Board/Kayak Race and Family Festival at the corner of Kings Highway and Haines Drive in Moorestown on Saturday, June 12 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

This year’s event will surely be a great day to come out and compete in the Paddle Board /Kayak race as well as enjoy all the attractions the family festival has to offer. There will be food trucks, microbreweries, vendors, live music, a silent auction and lots of family fun! Those wishing to compete in the race can rent equipment at the event, and no experience is necessary.

The SLBC is a 501 ©3 non-profit organization created in 2018, whose mission is to raise funds to be used toward the beautification of Strawbridge Lake. Proceeds from past events have been used toward funding the lake edge clean-up. The SLBC is seeking sponsors for this year’s event as well as vendors for the festival, volunteers for social media, the Silent Auction baskets, and event day volunteers. For sponsorship and volunteer information please visit www.strawbridgelakebc.com.

The first two years of this event were great successes. In 2019, more than 40 racers competed. The committee partnered with the Moorestown Rotary Breakfast Club and a beer garden was added. Live music was also added to the festival and there was a large Silent Auction with great items to bid on. Unfortunately, last year the event was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, this year promises to be a great event and a wonderful day to get outside with family, friends and neighbors and enjoy all that Strawbridge Lake has to offer.

In addition to the Strawbridge Lake Beautification Committee’s efforts to beautify the lake, other things have been done to improve the lake experience. A walking/running path was installed last summer between Kings Highway and Pleasant Valley Avenue through grant funds and the township funded the dredging of the Children’s Pond and Lower Lake Basins as well as Gazebo restoration and the installation of new playground equipment. General clean-up of the area near the bear statues was funded by a private donor (the statues were donated by a local resident.) Garden State Pressure Washing donated their work to power wash signage and a Beech tree was planted in honor of Dr. Curtis, funded by Curtis Auxiliary to Virtua Hospital. Other fundraisers have been held through Facebook (giving Tuesday), Boscov’s Family & Friends and selling Pura Vida bracelets. The committee continues to apply for grants and raise funds to continue its mission.

Strawbridge Lake has been a landmark in Moorestown for nearly 100 years and draws many people throughout the area who come to enjoy its beauty and nature. The SLBC hopes to bring Strawbridge Lake back to the beautiful town treasure that it once was through community involvement and fundraising events.
