It won’t be hard to find fun this winter in Harrison Township – the recreation commission is making sure of that.
The group generally plans one event a month and its February offering is set in stone, come snow or shine: The Main Street Mania free scavenger hunt is scheduled for Feb 20 and 21.
At 8 a.m. on the first day, a list of clues will be sent to all participants, who will then decipher them and find their different locations on Main Street. Hunters will then take a picture and upload it to the Main Street Mania portal for a chance to win one of 10 prizes.
“We wanted to do something to get everybody out of this winter funk and do something fun,” said Recreation Coordinator Sharon Crew.
The event is a flexible one, with clues sent out the morning of the event and tailored for completion with snow on the ground. Participants will have until 6 p.m. Sunday night to upload pictures, too.
“We’re ever evolving,” Crew said, noting the group’s desire to find a new winter event in the midst of the uncertain times during the pandemic. “We’re always thinking of uplifting, fun things for the residents of Harrison Township.”
That goes for the business owners on Main Street, too. Driving business to the mom-and-pop shops is equally important.
“We want to incorporate the businesses on Main Street,” Crew added. “As we know with COVID, everyone’s been affected. The main hunt is right on Main Street, so we can help the businesses and get people out in town.”
The 10 prizes involve local businesses and the winners of Main Street Mania can choose which prize they want.
Want to open the invitation to family or friends out of town? No problem, according to Crew, who encourages folks from different towns to participate.
“Whenever we do something, we’re open to everyone,” she noted. “You don’t have to live in Harrison Township to be plugged into our events or programs.
“We’re open to everyone. We’re all in this together.”
Registration for the event is open until midnight on Feb. 19 through Eventbrite. A link to the free sign up can be found on the recreation page of HarrisonTwp.Us or on its Facebook page at Harrison Township Recreation Commission.
“I wish everyone a happy hunt and continue to stay Harrison Strong,” Crew said. “We will get through this.”
