Cinnaminson High School’s Class of 2022 hosts clothing drive fundraiser

Planners will collect items on Jan. 16 and 18 to benefit next year’s grads

Those getting a jumpstart on their spring cleaning can support the Cinnaminson High School Class of 2022 while clearing out unwanted items.

A clothing drive fundraiser is set for 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 16, and Monday, Jan. 18, outside the auditorium side of the high school. New or gently used men, women and children’s clothing; shoes; purses; belts; bed and bath linens; and stuffed animals will be accepted. Donations translate into cash for the Class of 2022.

“You get so much per pound,” Nancy Mulville, class advisor, explained.

The group is partnering with ClothingFundraiser.com for the drive. The company will pick up the donations – there needs to be a minimum of 100 bags – and, after weighing everything, pays 10 to 12 cents per pound. This is less than in the past, when rates were closer to 14 to 20 cents per pound, but a drop in need due to the COVID-19 pandemic translated into a drop in pay.

“The officers, their theory was, ‘Well, it’s something, even if we’re not getting as much,’” Mulville said. “If anything, we could start a tradition.”

A historically lucrative fundraiser – selling Cinnaminson magnets – didn’t pan out for the Class of 2022 last year. The magnet shipment came in just before the COVID-19 quarantine essentially shut down the state.

“We couldn’t sell them. We’ve gotten some sales, especially right before the holidays, but it’s nowhere near what we normally could be doing with in-person sales,” Mulville said.

The magnets, at $10 each, may be available at the clothing drive. Those interested in purchasing one can also reach out to Mulville and fellow class advisor Megan Schweitzer for purchase.

Anyone dropping off items for the fundraiser are asked to be mindful of social distancing and wear a mask if near others. Bins will be placed in the parking lot area for donations.

Money raised will go into the junior class’s general fund, which helps fund events such as this year’s prom, as well as next year’s senior day, senior night and senior trip.

Cinnaminson High School is located at 1197 Riverton Road.
