Deptford Fire Department is excited to announce the launch of a campaign to spread awareness of the department’s important role in the community and recruit new volunteers to its ranks.

A new slogan, “Depend on Deptford,” was chosen after members participated in a visioning session to pinpoint the unique strengths and opportunities within the department.

The fire department was formed in 1966 from the merger of eight individual companies. Seven of those companies are still active: Oak Valley, Tacoma, Helping Hand, Union (Blackwood Terrace), Almonesson Lake, New Sharon, and Community (Lake Tract).

These companies are now grouped into four separate battalions serving Deptford Township. A fifth battalion is made up of career firefighters.

“We want to make sure people are aware of the many ways we help the community,” said Michael White, chairman of the Deptford Board of Fire Commissioners. “Through our dedicated volunteers and career staff, specialized training and equipment, and passion for service, we play an essential role in our township.”

The department will implement a public outreach program to include:

  • Articles in local media
  • Direct mail to homes
  • Social media
  • Public presentations

The campaign also includes a redesign of the fire department’s website, which can be viewed at www.DeptfordFD.org

To kick off the campaign, Deptford Fire Department will soon mail out a newsletter with more information about the department, including an introduction to leadership, volunteer opportunities, and important facts and figures.

The Communication Solutions Group, a public relations firm based in Jenkintown, Pa., is working with Deptford Fire Department on this effort. The organization has successfully carried out engagement and recruitment campaigns for other Mid-Atlantic fire companies, including within South Jersey.
