Suspect charged in kindapping case

Cherry Hill Police’s Investigative Division issued a release on Friday, revealing that a Philadelphia man has been charged for his reported involvement in two
attempted kidnappings following an extensive investigation by the department.

The defendant is Kent W. Powe, of the 2000 block of S. Redfield Street in Philadelphia. He is charged with two counts of 2nd Degree Attempted Kidnapping, 3rd Degree Aggravated Assault, for an incident on Nov. 14, and two counts of 1st Degree Kidnapping, 1st Degree Armed Robbery, 2nd Degree Aggravated Assault, 3rd Degree Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, 3rd Degree Terroristic Threats, 2nd Degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, 2nd Degree Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purpose, 2nd Degree Certain Persons for a Nov. 20 incident.

On Dec. 2, members of the Cherry Hill Investigative Unit identified Powe as a possible suspect for the crimes as well as other similar incidents in Lower Merion Township, Montgomery County, Pa.

This information was shared with Lower Merion Police and the suspect was charged by them in connection to an incident in their jurisdiction on Nov. 4.

On Dec. 3, the Cherry Hill Police, Lower Merion Police and Collingdale Police located Powe
at a residence on the 200 block of Jackson Avenue, in Collingdale, Delaware County, Pa. He was taken into custody without incident and is currently incarcerated on the charges.

The Cherry Hill Police investigation continued and culminated today, Dec. 11,
with Powe being charged in connection to both incidents that occurred in Cherry
Hill on Nov. 14 and 20..

The Cherry Hill Police Department would like to acknowledge the following Law
Enforcement agencies for their assistance with this investigation: Lower Merion
Police Department, Philadelphia Police Department, Collingdale Police
Department, Camden County Prosecutors Office, and the Gloucester Township
Police Department.

“This was a complex case with many moving parts across state lines and it
required the careful cooperation of multiple agencies to result in these charges.
Cherry Hill Police Detectives put in a lot of work to keep their community safe
and informed, and the data we received from the Lower Merion Police
Department and Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office was crucial in
helping our Major Crimes Assistant Prosecutors move forward in filing charges in
this case,” said Acting Camden County Prosecutor Jill S. Mayer.

“We understand a lot of people have been very fearful after these incidents, especially in the Cherry Hill community, and we hope these charges highlight how seriously we
take these actions.”
