Medford leaf collection underway

Zones 3, 4 and 5 still need to be collected. Residents should prepare leaves before their zone's scheduled collection week.

Leaf collection crews completed Medford Zone 1 on Saturday, but continue to work in some sections of Zone 2. Crews are working to complete collections in Deerbrook, Birchwood Lakes, and along Taunton Road.  All other areas are complete.

Crews will begin collections in Zone 4 as soon as Zone 2 is complete. The collection schedule for the rest of the season is as follows:

Zone 4:  Week of Dec. 7th

Zone 5:  Week of Dec. 14th

Zone 3:  Week of Dec. 21st

Leaves will not be collected after Jan. 31, 2021. Residents are encouraged to create enclosures made from four foot vinyl construction fencing available at your local home improvement stores. Leaves should be free of sticks, branches, trash and other debris. Each street will be collected once during the scheduled week.

Placement of leaves at the curb or along the street at any other time or in any other manner is a violation of Township Ordinance 82. Any leaves placed curbside outside of the times specified by the Township will be the responsibility of the homeowner to have removed.

Sweeping, raking, blowing or otherwise placing leaves at the curb is only permitted seven days prior to a scheduled collection. Leaf piles should be placed no further than ten feet from the edge of the roadway. Collection vehicles will not leave the roadway to collect piles of leaves. Leaves should not be placed around trees, bushes, utility poles, signs, or other obstructions.

Leaves should not be placed in the street or block any vehicle traffic lanes. Leaves should be placed at least ten feet from storm drains. Leaves should be kept at least one foot from the curb to allow runoff from rain to flow freely. Do not park vehicles close to piles. Leaves placed curbside that do not meet the strict guidelines above will not be collected.

Residents who cannot wait for a roadside collection can bring their leaves to the DPW yard on Commonwealth Drive during regular business hours.  Any leaves placed at the street by professional landscapers, contractors, or anyone hired by a homeowner, must be removed by them.

Winter weather may delay leaf collection if a snowfall is experienced during leaf collection timelines. Schedule changes and updates will be posted as needed on our website at www.medfordtownship.com.

Residents with questions should contact the Department of Neighborhood Services at 609-654-6791.
