Medford council meeting includes news of ‘welcome kit’ for residents

Information will also appear online, with hard copies for HOAs, Realtors

Short, sweet and to the point – the unofficial motto of the latest Medford council meeting.

The session opened with a report from the Neighborhood Services Advisory Committee (NSAC), about which Tom Wright and David Herron presented new information to council.

The duo said they had completed a welcome kit that consists of 18 pages of facts, figures and phone numbers necessary for any resident of Medford. According to Wright, the document will be available online in the near future.

“It’s everything a newcomer to Medford would want to know,” Herron said.

There is no timetable on the publication of the welcome kit, but council did approve the next phase, an online publication and hard copies distributed to HOAs (homeowner associations) and real estate offices.

The Environmental Affairs Advisory Committee also gave its annual report, which  included a certification from Sustainable Jersey and a $10,000 grant from Atlantic City Electric.

Township Manager Katherine Burger reported interest in a holiday stroll that would be a socially distant celebration of the holiday season. She wished for businesses to decorate and have folks stroll down Main Street to admire the sights and sounds. Council approved the idea; more information will follow.

In other news:

  • Two volunteer firefighters, Edward T. Keebler and John P. Carroll, were approved for Station 251.
  • Dave Carns, resident and owner of Old Hickory Farm on Medford-Mt. Holly Road, requested council review an ordinance about the sale of firewood from farms.

“Maybe something could be done to help us, help our farm,” he said. “The firewood was a way; we weren’t getting rich on it, but it was helping out.  Everyone who’s in firewood knows you’re not going to get rich off it, it’s really hard work… It’s one of the things that helped out.”

No action was taken on the issue.

  • The next council meeting is scheduled for Nov. 17, at 7 p.m., at the public safety building, and will be available online at medfordtownship.com/council
