Shawnee student named National Merit Semifinalist

Nilay Yadav will now compete against 16,000 other semifinalists to become a finalist and win a National Merit Scholarship.

Shawnee High School student Nilay Yadav was named a National Merit Semifinalist in the 2021 National Merit Scholarship Program. Yadav, a senior, will now compete for a finalist position and a National Merit Scholarship.

Yadav placed in the top one percent of more than 1.5 million students who took the 2019 Preliminary SATs/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. The 16,000 semifinalists are the highest scoring students in each state.

To be considered for a Merit Scholarship, each semifinalist must fulfill several requirements in order to advance to the final level, including submitting a record of their academic performance, community service, and honors and awards. The scholarships will be awarded in spring 2021.
