Leading up to the 2020 election, The Mantua Sun is running a three-week Meet the Candidates series. During this third and final installment, candidates from both parties running for office make their final pitch to voters on what a future in office would look like.
For the third week of our three-week series on the Mantua Township Committee election, candidates were asked to make their final pitch to voters on why they should be elected.
First up is incumbent John Legge.
Experience and leadership.
The experience and leadership skills I have developed in both business and community service have enabled me to bring a unique and valued perspective to the Township Committee.
In my career as an engineer and project manager in the private sector, I have managed people for nearly 25 years and have benefitted from multiple executive development training programs. I am proud of my reputation for hard work and integrity, and I value the same in my staff.
In 20 years of service to our community, I have volunteered as a coach for Mantua Township Soccer Association, with both boys’ and girls’ teams, as well as for Sewell baseball and softball. I also have served as a member of the Township’s MUA Board, the Economic Development Committee, and the Planning Board (one year as chairman), and I was elected for two terms to the Mantua Township Board of Education (two years as president). I am a Past Master of Clarksboro Lodge #87 F&AM.
As a committeeman since 2011, I have experience closely working with volunteer residents on the Township’s Land Use Board, Veterans’ Commission, and Environmental Commission, as well as assisting with and attending various other community functions, such as senior dinners, business openings, remembrance ceremonies, and celebratory events.
I truly care about our community and maintaining the quality of life that our residents have come to expect. Those who know me know that I am honest, responsive, and passionate about doing what’s best for all of Mantua Township.

And now the last word from Republican candidate Sean Sepsey.
Mantua Township has been my home nearly my entire life. I have volunteered in our community in various organizations since I was 14 and I am eager to continue serving our township. I started serving our town as a Police Explorer, where I rose to the highest rank of chief. I have received various awards from Mantua Township, The Mantua Police Department, the Police Chiefs Association, the PBA/ FOP and the Mantua Lions Club for my years of service. I later served on Mantua’s Recreation Committee where I served our residents and senior citizens proudly. I currently serve supporting the education of our students at Clearview School District. I am proud to support so many great teachers who strive, every day, to ensure our students are getting the best education possible.
My experience working in education has taught me that diversity of ideas is what makes an organization the most efficient and effective. That rule also applies to our township committee. Mantua has not had a Republican on its committee since 2001 and I am looking to change that. I am offering a fresh perspective to our local government. I will be someone who fights to bring good, quality businesses to our township. I will work to expand our township programs, so Mantua continues to be a great place to raise a family and retire. Lastly, I will ensure that our local government is transparent and held accountable. I look forward to having the chance to serve you in the future!
