Homer was the First Officer of United Airlines Flight 93, which was hijacked as part of the Sept. 11 attacks. Passengers and crew reclaimed control of the plane and crashed into a field near Shanksville, Pa., killing all 37 passengers and seven crew members — but saving those at the intended target of the U.S. Capitol.
A memorial shadow box honoring Homer will be dedicated during the ceremony, and then will hang on Mission BBQ’s Sept. 11 Memorial Wall.
First responders who attend the event will receive a free sandwich as a gesture of the restaurant’s and foundation’s gratitude.
