Mayor’s Message: Businesses re-open, Phase II of Veteran’s Wall announced

Mayor Joann Gattinelli also shares reminders on the Washington Township App and municipal building operations.

Washington Township App

I would like to remind residents that the Washington Township O-N-E application is available for download in the App Store and Google Play by searching “Washington Township”. Residents are able to access crucial township information, such as news, events in the park and participating Shop Washington Township merchants. Not only is the app a source of information and news, but you can also report any dangers that you see around the township such as potholes, trash not picked up, fallen street signs or debris, etc. Your report will go directly to our department of public works so they may address the issue in a timely manner. If you have any questions regarding the Washington Township app, please visit  www.TownshipNJ.com.

Washington Township Businesses

I am thrilled to see a larger amount of businesses opening up due to great demand while also implementing new CDC guidelines. The long, social distanced lines outside of many retailers shows business resiliency and great demand from residents. We look forward to many more openings and the completion of construction for Panda Express, Jersey Mike’s, Chipotle, First Watch, Jennaro’s and a newly expanded Luna Rossa using its new liquor license. Please continue to support our local businesses as they are the back bone of our community. We are grateful to all of our businesses who continuously give back to the community with sponsoring events such as youth organizations and teams. For more information, visit the township website at www.TownshipNJ.com, click the businesses tab and then click economic development, or call Nancy Mazzachio, Economic Development Consultant at (856) 589-0520 ext. 261.

Veterans Wall at WT Municipal Building Phase ll

Washington Township is proud to announce the Veterans Wall Phase II to honor Washington Township residents who have worn the uniform of the United States military. This wall honors veterans who have completed honorable service in the United States armed forces during times of conflict and non-conflict. I am proud of our veterans and we want to acknowledge their dedication and sacrifice. Thanks to local donors, we will be able to give recognition to our veteran’s honorable service to our country. We are now accepting applications for Phase II. If you are a veteran or know of any Washington Township veterans who would like to take part, please stop in or download the application forms. This information can be found at www.Townshipnj.com.

Please note eligibility is limited to persons who have completed active duty service in the United States Military and have been honorably discharged. National Guard members who were deployed overseas in a combat zone are also eligible. Inclusion of a DD 214 or other form of discharge is extremely helpful. Application and photo are due by Nov. 15. Please contact the Washington Township Business Administrator, Jason Gonter at JGonter@twp.washington.nj.us or via phone at (856) 589-0520 ext. 239 for more information. We are diligently working on setting up a future date for a ceremony to honor the newly added veterans on our Veterans Wall.  More updates will be shared on our social media outlets, as well as the Township website.

Municipal Building Updates

The Washington Township Municipal Building is now open to residents and visitors. Anyone entering the municipal building will be manually checked in and out by the front desk. Please follow directional arrows, exit signs and social distancing markers. These markers will be placed strategically at the front entrance and throughout the entire building. This is to remind and encourage all employees as well as visitors to maintain a social distance of six feet. A face mask or face covering is required to be worn at all times when entering the building and in shared spaces such as hallways, restrooms and offices. The township will adhere to Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines as well as state and local orders.

Please note the municipal building is operating under our summer hours. The building is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and is closed on Friday.
