COVID-19 cases decrease for fifth straight week in Gloucester County

Over the past seven days, Gloucester County also reported its lowest number of COVID-19 deaths since the first week of April.

COVID-19 cases continued to decline this past week in Gloucester County and the number of deaths of patients ill with COVID-19 reached its lowest point in more than two months.

In the week spanning June 18 through June 24, Gloucester County averaged 10.6 new COVID-19 cases per day. This is a slight decrease from an average of 11.3 new cases the previous week and is the fifth week in a row the average number of daily cases has declined. Here is the history of the week-by-week average daily case numbers in Gloucester County:

  • March 18 to March 25 – 3.4 cases per day
  • March 26 to April 1 – 17.6
  • April 2 to April 8 – 27.0
  • April 9 to April 15 – 35.3
  • April 16 to April 22 – 37.3
  • April 23 to April 29 – 51.1
  • April 30 to May 6 – 44.3
  • May 7 to May 13 – 30.7
  • May 14 to May 20 – 35.1
  • May 21 to May 27 – 27.0
  • May 28 to June 3 – 19.9
  • June 4 to June 10 – 12.4

After an uptick in COVID-19 deaths last week, Gloucester County reported only three new deaths during the week of June 18 to June 24. This is the fewest the county has seen in a seven-day span since the first week of April, when the first COVID-19 deaths were first being reported in the county. Here is the history of the average number of COVID-19 deaths by week in Gloucester County:

  • March 18 to March 25 – 0 (first COVID-19 death reported by the county on March 27)
  • March 26 to April 1 – 0.3 per day
  • April 2 to April 8 – 0.4
  • April 9 to April 15 – 0.9
  • April 16 to April 22 – 2.7
  • April 23 to April 29 – 1.4
  • April 30 to May 6 – 3.6
  • May 7 to May 13 – 4.4
  • May 14 to May 20 – 4.6
  • May 21 to May 27 – 1.9
  • May 28 to June 3 – 1.0
  • June 4 to June 10 – 0.9
  • June 11 to June 17 – 2.0
  • June 18 to June 24 – 0.4

Gloucester County reported 17 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, June 23 and nine new cases on Wednesday, June 24. Out of the nine new cases on Wednesday, five were Washington Twp. residents, two were from Woolwich and one each were from Harrison Township and Paulsboro. County officials reported the death of an 81-year-old woman from Elk Township on Tuesday due to COVID-19. No new deaths were reported on Wednesday.
