The South Jersey Region of the Sports Car Club of America invites car enthusiasts to its Spring Fling Road Rally. The rally starts at the Carolina Blue Restaurant at 692 Lambs Road in Mantua Township on Sunday, June 21 with a check in time of 9:30 a.m.
The rally will be a four-hour 100-mile drive on all paved back roads through sparsely populated southern NJ. You and your teammate, as driver and navigator, will follow written route instructions at assigned average speeds. Average speeds are always at or below the speed limit for the road. The goal is to arrive at each checkpoint precisely on time. Penalty points are given equally for arriving too early or too late. Awards will be presented to the teams with the best total score.
No prior rally experience is necessary. This rally is designed for people who are new to the sport of road rallying. There are no tricky instructions.
The rally will use a smartphone app for timing the contestants’ arrival at the checkpoints. The app uses GPS information from your phone to record your arrival time and will, within seconds, tell you how early or late you arrived. The app will also display your total score as you progress through the checkpoints. All contestants must have a smart phone with them for the rally. Cell phone signal strength is not an issue since you will download all the data needed to your phone prior to the rally. The app is free to download.
Participants only need the following things:
- Any four-wheeled street legal car or small truck.
- A team of two people consisting of a driver and navigator.
- Driver must possess a current driver’s license.
- Pay the enter fee of $40 per car ($20 per person). All cars with an SCCA member on the team will only pay $30 per car to enter ($15 per person).
Registration is now open at https://msreg.com/2020-Spring-Fling. Cars must pre-register for the rally. There is a 30 car limit to the number of entries.
The rally starts and finishes at Carolina Blue Restaurant. Check in begins at 9:30 a.m., with the contestant’s meeting at 10 a.m. and the rally beginning at 10:30 a.m.
