A life-size bronze giraffe donated by the generosity of borough residents, has moved into his new home at the Children’s Sculpture Zoo at Tatem Garden. Now, all he needs is a clever name — a fun project as we continue to quarantine.
Haddonfield Outdoor Sculpture Trust invites the public to give the new addition to the menagerie an appropriate moniker. The deadline to submit your name suggestion online is 12 p.m. on May 31, at Name That Giraffe. Nearly 200 entries have been received to date. While we welcome input from everyone near and far, the winning name will be selected from those submitted by Haddonfield residents and students.
If you decide to visit him at the corner of Kings Highway East and Evergreen Avenue, be sure to wear your mask and socially distance.
The giraffe was donated by Haddonfield residents Paul and Paula Szkotak and daughters Alexis, Angelina and Arabella. Special shout-out to Haddonfield’s Public Works crew for a spectacular job in carefully moving the sculpture from the Szkotak home to Tatem Garden, including a traffic-stopping stroll down Kings Highway, as seen on the news:
Although the sculpture itself was donated, HOST asks for your help to defray upwards of $10,000 in “soft” costs including moving, insurance, fencing and security, as well as a future cleaning and the new sign shown below. Click here to donate and help defray these costs.
