Open mic night goes virtual every Thursday night

Local business Creek Cafe takes its performance space to Instagram Live

Creek Cafe’s Open Mic Night has gone virtual every week since the COVID-19 pandemic precautions have advised against large gatherings. Going on its fifth week, you can tune in and join the fun on Instagram @Creekcafemarket every Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. for a live stream. Follow the account to receive alerts and notifications about virtual and, eventually, in-person events.

At the virtual open-mic event, performers have an opportunity to play two or three pieces, based on the number of requests in the queue. Requests can be sent right from the comment section during the livestream by tapping the Request button at the top of the comments (if it’s not there, just scroll all the way up to the top of the comments section).

Attracting more than 20 weekly regulars and counting, local performers have been joined by musicians from upstate New York, Virginia, Delaware and Baltimore. Sets have included songs accompanied by a variety of instruments like upright bass, ukulele, cello, piano and guitar, and have also featured beat-boxing and even original poetry.

This week’s open mic night will be tonight, Thursday, April 16. Performers and audience members are invited to come back every week.
