The Department of Parks and Recreation is currently accepting employment applications for Moorestown’s Summer Parks programs. Paid summer positions are for anyone age 16 (must be 16 years old by June 22) and above. The job consists of helping site supervisors run any number of the Recreation Department’s Summer Camp programs.
The Recreation Department runs a variety of camps starting in late June — “Four is Fun” and “Five is Funner” is for the youngest campers and lasts five weeks, Monday through Thursday from 8:45 a.m. to noon starting June 22. Art camp and sports camp are held for one week during the month of August from 9am-12:30pm.
Theatre camp is a six-week program starting June 22. It runs Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. “Willie Wonka Junior” will be on stage this summer. Every year, the very popular program of nearly 100 children (ages seven to thirteen) is a journey from “auditions” to rehearsals to four final performances — two matinees on July 29 and 30 at 1 p.m. and two evening shows on July 31 and August 1 at 7:30 p.m.
The Special Needs Camp is a wonderful program for individuals with special needs ages five to 23. It takes place during the month of July, Monday through Friday with many fun activities and field trips planned. Special Needs campers join the Theatre Camp every Friday and have their own performance on the last day of camp. The program is sponsored by Mission Voice
Applications for summer programs volunteer positions (Counselors in Training) will also be accepted beginning January 6, 2020. These positions, for students ages 14 to 16, require an application, followed by an interview. Interviews will be held after the deadline in March through April 17. Once accepted, students can formally apply. CITs are required to be present for all weeks of their respective camps with five consecutive days off for vacation if needed.
CITs will earn community service hours and more importantly learn job development skills. It’s an opportunity to discover the responsibilities of getting and having a job. They will have a formal interview, shadow an employee, take responsibility for their assigned duties and be evaluated. Having gone through this invaluable experience helps to prepare young adults for their next employment venture. Every year,there are more applicants than spots available, so make sure to apply early.
