Police responded to bomb threat at VMS Jan. 2

Incident is currently under investigation by detectives, while an arrest is "hopeful" in the near future

A bomb threat situation at Voorhees Middle School was the cause for an evacuation of the school Thursday, Jan. 2, according to the Voorhees Police Department.

Police responded to the school at 11:09 a.m. after being made aware of the threat, said Capt. Carmen Del Palazzo, public information officer with the department. It was the first day back from winter break for students at the school.

Officers assisted with the relocation of students from VMS to Eastern Regional High School during the afternoon, which would allow for the department to conduct a search of the school with K-9s to ensure the school was safe.

According to Eastern Regional Superintendent Robert Cloutier, students from Voorhees Middle School were kept in the theatre portion of Eastern Regional for approximately an hour, before being able to be bussed back to VMS.

The incident is under investigation by detectives from the department’s Criminal Investigation Bureau, and Del Palazzo says an arrest is “hopeful” moving forward.

Those with information are reminded to contact the Voorhees Police Department at (856) 428-5400 or through it’s tip line at media@vtpd.com.
