Seneca’s marching band wins first place at U.S. Bands Group IIIA

Press release from Seneca High School.

Seneca’s Marching Band 2019 (Special to The Sun).

Seneca High School’s Marching Band placed first in the US Bands Group III A State Championship at Somerville High School on Nov. 2.

Led by Seneca music teacher Keith Styers, the marching band has also placed first in competitions throughout the 2019 season, including at Lenape, Brick and Robbinsville high schools, and also won best Colorguard and Percussion at Robbinsville.

The band’s theme this year was “Another Place, Another Time,” based on the concept of a night at the library where the stories come to life.

Styers says, “The dedication of the students, staff and parents have been unmatched to any other year. This dedication has directly led to our success. We are so grateful to Seneca High School, our amazing football team and cheerleaders, the support of Cheerleading Coach Ms. Vorwerk, Football Coach Fisher, and Seneca’s Athletic Director Brad Bauer.”

Colorguard Flag Captain, Megan Steltz, senior, says, “Winning the band championship was amazing! We practiced really hard all season long, so to win first place felt great. This year we were also awarded Best Colorguard and Best Visual. This season was full of dedication and passion which were the keys to our success. All of our hard work finally paid off when we won states!”

Seneca’s marching band season has ended for the year, but Styers is already planning next year’s theme and expecting a successful 2020 season.
