The Palmyra Band Boosters Club will hold its annual holiday craft fair between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Dec. 7 at Palmyra High School. The fair is a fundraising benefit that encompasses the community and raises funds for the Palmyra High School marching and concert band.
The club is run by parents whose mission is to get involved with the marching and concert band and make the experience of their children and the Palmyra community worthwhile.
“The craft fair is an event that we do every year and it’s our biggest fundraiser of the year,” said club Treasurer Kim Gillespie. “We bring a lot of our local vendors and people within the community to help promote local business, but also to fund for the band. The band booster club is an organization that tries to help the band in any way that is not necessarily covered under the school’s budget.”
“I personally got involved with the Palmyra Band Booster Club because I think parent involvement is an important thing,” Gillespie added. “Everyone wants their child to be a part of something great, but it’s the parents’ involvement that makes it great. I feel that way about being a part of the community.”
According to Gillespie, members of the community who attend the craft fair can expect various local vendors; face painting; activities for kids; and a full kitchen that includes pizza, burgers and slushies among other items. Attendees can also participate in basket raffles and hear music from the band players.
In previous years, funds raised during the event were used to replace worn drum harnesses, buy new uniforms for the color guards and purchase a self-sufficient powered amplifier to connect an electric guitar. The largest use of the funds has been for band scholarships given to senior members of the marching and concert bands.
“The community has been very supportive in our fundraising efforts,” said Gillespie. “When we have held car washes before, a lot of people sometimes just give donations and don’t even want the band members to wash their car.
“The Palmyra Band Booster Club works the concession stand at the football game and we always hear positive feedback from the community,” Gillespie added. “Everyone gets excited about the craft fair and we hope to see everyone there.
“We’re looking forward to all of the community support.”
