With playoffs just a few weeks away, teams from the gridiron to the soccer pitch are stepping up to the plate and making statements.

One of those statement wins came in an intense football game between rivals Highland and Timber Creek last Friday. The Tartans pulled out 21-17 win after stopping a Chargers’ drive late in the fourth quarter. Not only was the win Highland’s fourth in a row, but the Tartans also handed Timber Creek its first loss to a New Jersey opponent in 2019. More photos from last week’s game can be found below and be sure to check back at www.southjerseysportsweekly.com tomorrow for a Q&A with Highland running back Johnny Martin.

Another statement win came a week prior as Moorestown football took down Burlington Township, 27-6, handing the Falcons their first loss of the season. South Jersey Sports Weekly’s Player of the Week is Quakers’ running back Jon Miller. Miller dashed for 118 yards on 16 carries and scored three touchdowns in the victory. In Moorestown’s first four games, Miller reached the end zone eight times.

“Jon’s been huge for us all season, he’s all over the field,” said Moorestown coach Beau Sherry. “Against (Burlington Township), he was a warrior playing through injuries and still giving max effort, not only on offense and defense but on special teams as well. He leads by example and is always going full speed, whether it’s a Friday night game or Tuesday afternoon practice.”
