Harrison Committee discusses new town ornament

The Township has been working with an ornament design company in recent weeks to create a Christmas ornament to sell to residents.

During the latest Harrison Committee meeting, members discussed a proposed design for a town ornament.

The township has been working with an ornament design company in recent weeks to create a Christmas ornament to sell to residents.

The design includes the Old Town Hall in the center with a wreath framing the outer edges of the ornament. “Old Town Hall” is written on the top with “Mullica Hill, NJ” on the bottom.

The design company, Hestia Creations, has worked with other municipalities in the region, including Collingswood, to create ornaments tailored to the specific towns.

The plan is to get local businesses in Harrison involved with selling the ornaments. Profits would go toward Harrison Township Beautification on Main Street, according to Deputy Municipal Clerk Lawrence Moore.

Due to company policy, the township is only allowed to order 100 ornaments in the first shipment.

“That’s what the mayor and I talked about. That’s not set in stone, but that’s one of the ideas,” said Moore.

They are hoping to have the ornaments finished before the Lights on Main event scheduled for Nov. 30. However, the company is expecting to finish the order by the end of November or the beginning of December, according to Moore.

“I suggest we press them,” said Deputy Mayor Don Heim. “We have a huge missed opportunity not having them available for Lights on Main.”

The process to send the sample, make the ornaments and ship them back to a township takes roughly two to three months, according to Moore. The company requires a design fee of $400 to move forward.

The committee and township employees discussed whether or not to add the year to the front of the ornament, allowing residents to keep track of what year the ornament is from.

The committee did not approve of the design that was given at the meeting. The township is still in the process of deciding which changes should be made before sending the final design to Hestia Creations.

The next committee meeting is scheduled for Oct. 21 at 7 p.m. at the Municipal Building.
