Mantua Township asks Joint Land Use board to review cannabis act

The Township Committee has asked the town’s Joint Land Use Board and Planner to decide on the most appropriate locations for cannabis-related uses.

During the latest Mantua Township Committee meeting, members approved a resolution requesting to have the town’s Joint Land Use Board review and provide recommendations to a new medical cannabis act.

The act refers to the Jake Honig Compassionate Use Medical Cannabis Act. The bill was signed on July 2 by Gov. Murphy and is meant to expand patient access to medical marijuana.

The township committee asked the town’s Joint Land Use Board and Planner to decide on the most appropriate locations for cannabis-related uses.

The resolution directs the board to make recommendations to the mayor and committee as to potential locations that would be appropriate for cannabis-related businesses and operations, including cultivation, manufacturing, processing, packaging and retail dispensing of cannabis for medical purposes.

The board is also directed to review the act, the township’s land use and zoning ordinances, the master plan, the township’s physical layout and land use mixes and proximities, as well as existing and proposed future buildout.

The next Joint Land Use board meeting is scheduled for Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. at the Municipal Building.
