Annual Camden County International Day Celebration tomorrow

International Day begins with a parade of flags from 80 different countries, representing the 80 countries from which Camden County College students hail

The Camden County Freeholder Board and Camden County College will host the annual International Day Celebration honoring the many cultures of Camden County through performances, food and educational programming.

“This is a great opportunity to celebrate Camden County’s diversity with pageantry, entertainment and food.  The event has been organized to promote an understanding and appreciation of each of our rich cultural backgrounds,” Freeholder Jonathan Young said.  “I encourage residents to come out and enjoy the free event with their friends and neighbors by sampling food, listening to music and enjoying performances from around the world.”

The event is organized by the Camden County Cultural Awareness Commission. The 13-member board is charged with facilitating awareness of the cultural diversity of the various ethnic, racial, and religious groups within the County of Camden through seminars, educational programs, exhibits and guest speakers.

“The focus of the Commission is to foster a community spirit which promotes dignity, harmony and understanding within and among the various ethnic groups which make up the citizenry of Camden County,” Young said.

International Day begins with a parade of flags from 80 different countries, representing the 80 countries from which Camden County College students hail. Foods from around the world will be available for tasting, vendors will have cultural items for sale and international performances will take place throughout the event.

Academic presentations and workshops will be offered from various College departments including a short lecture on the role of the U.S. on the global economy, and multi-cultural poetry readings.
