Plenty of fall fun to be had in Marlton this year

The Sun’s annual preview of fall events is here to guide you to the best local events of the season.

After sweating through record-setting heat this summer, many of us are more than ready to welcome the fall season with open arms. Of course this transition brings more than just temperate weather conditions. Residents have a lot to look forward to throughout Marlton in the upcoming season.

One of the first events coming to town, as it does each year, just days after the official start to fall, is the annual Evesham Harvest Fest, Sept. 28, from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Main Street between Maple Avenue and South Locust Avenue.

According to Thea Chrupcala, co-founder of the Evesham Celebrations Foundation, the popular event is expected to draw around 11,000 people from all over the area. Attendees will be able to enjoy live music in a variety of styles as they browse through the offerings of close to 90 different, mostly local artists and crafters who will have their wares on display and up for sale at the event.

“We have a great variety of crafters,” said Chrupcala. “We have jewelry, home-decor-type crafts, wreaths and flowers, holiday decorations, all kinds of stuff like that.”

The family-friendly event will feature a kids corner area with a DJ, games, inflatable play equipment and pumpkin decorating.

Chrupcala says there will be plenty of food options at Harvest Fest as well, including offerings from local grocer Rastelli Market Fresh. Cheyenne’s Road Market will also be in attendance selling fresh produce from one of its tractors.

“We have a food court, and we’ll also have some food vendors intermixed on Main Street itself,” said Chrupcala.

Just as there were in previous years, there will be shuttles available at Cherokee High School running throughout the day to alleviate issues people may have finding parking.

“It’s a big help because parking can be limited,” said Chrupcala. “It’s a huge crowd that comes out so the shuttles definitely help.”

After welcoming in the new season at Harvest Fest, residents needn’t look much further than their own township’s offerings to keep things interesting this fall. With a quick visit to evesham-nj.org, residents can peruse everything on offer in the Fall 2019 Recreation Programs catalogue and the Fall 2019 Senior Programs catalogue.

Recreation programs include a wide variety of classes available now until the end of the season. Everything from karate programs for all ages to yoga and tai chi as well as creative and competitive offerings like painting and tennis.

For the senior set, there are weekly programs covering activities like yoga, quilting, tai chi and a class that will teach you how to make your own stained-glass creations.

The Evesham Library has several fall- and Halloween-themed programs coming up on its calendar, starting with a DIY sunflower wreath craft project scheduled for Sept. 30.

From Oct. 13 to 31 in the library’s children’s department, there will be a Haunted House Scavenger Hunt children ages 9 and under can sign up for to win a treat or a ghoulish surprise.

On Oct. 23, there will be another DIY craft project available for teens interested in making their own ghostly Halloween decorations.

Finally, right before Halloween, children ages 3 to 6 are invited to don their costumes early and join Halloween Story Time on Oct. 29. There will be spooky stories, songs and a trick-or-treat bag craft.

The final Marlton Farmers Market is Sept. 25. Don’t miss your last opportunity to take advantage of everything your local farmers market has had on offer all summer in the Marlton Greene Shopping Center parking lot. Fresh produce, in-season fruits and vegetables, fresh salads, juices, smoothies, soaps and specialty items handmade by local artisans will all be available for the last time until the next market season.

Nearby Johnson’s Corner Farm is a fall staple and has you covered for all of your apple and pumpkin picking needs. Hayrides to the apple and pumpkin fields leave the Farm Market every half hour from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday through November. Every weekend in Sept. and Oct. will be the farm’s Fall Festivals. Live music, hayrides, a corn maze, gem mining and a food tent will all be available at each of these weekend events.
